Biography
Mahabub is a Ph.D. student at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences (BMVS) in Dr. Ryan Calder’s lab.
Mahabub completed his Bachelor in Geology and Mining from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Later, he earned an MS in Water Resources Development from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He also earned an MS from the Department of Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) at Virginia Tech in 2022. After his graduation from Virginia Tech, he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Virginia Tech.
He has diverse experience in working on coastal salinity intrusion, groundwater water vulnerability, remote sensing, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic modeling. Over the last 10 years of his research career, he has worked on multiple international collaborative projects, including the ESPA Deltas Project (led by the University of Southampton), the REACH Project (led by the University of Oxford), the Terrestrial Hydrosystems Lab in BSE at Virginia Tech, and the Floodgeek Lab in CEE at Virginia Tech. He worked on climatic and anthropogenic changes in the coastal area of Bangladesh, the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, and the Occoquan Watershed, US.
His main areas of interest in working in science-policy interaction are where he can apply his previous experience and apply that to help in the critical decision-making process and risk reduction among policy planners.
