General ItemDelta Omega Honorary Society - Delta Mu Chapter
Virginia Tech's chapter of Delta Omega, Delta Mu, was established in 2017. Each spring, a select number of Virginia Tech graduates, alumni, and faculty are inducted into Delta Mu. Membership in Delta Omega reflects the dedication of an individual to increasing the quality of the field, as well as to the protection and advancement of the health of all people.

General ItemRyan C. Aday Memorial Award
Ryan Aday was an excellent and highly motivated student who completed his degree in health promotion at Virginia Tech. In his honor, Dr. and Mrs. David Aday created the Ryan C. Aday Memorial Award. Each spring, the MPH program selects as award recipients a graduating student from each concentration who has demonstrated excellence in academics and public health service.

Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action awarded Dr. Julia Gohlke with their 2020 Climate and Health Teaching award. Dr. Gohlke is currently researching heat illness in Alabama, birth outcomes associated with surface mining in central Appalachia and emergency department visits associated with flooding after Hurricane Harvey.

Master of Public Health (MPH) and Virginia Medical Reserve Corps-trained students, Jaclyn Abramson, Theresa Markwalter, Hannah Reed, and Sarah Work (now an alumna) along with dual Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/MPH student Ella Rak, were recognized as Students Who Rocked Public Health in 2020 by the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice for their work assisting long-term care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing testing and other key response services.

Lee, associate vice president in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, director of the Division of Scholarly Integrity and Research Compliance, and Research Professor in our department, was honored by the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) Ethics Section with its 2019 Distinguished Career Award.

William "Bill" Pierson, professor of biosecurity and infection control and clinical specialist in poultry health in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, and program faculty member, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

Kathy Hosig, an associate professor in our program and Director of the Center for Public Health Practice and Research, was named a 2014 inductee into Purdue University’s Department of Nutrition Science Hall of Fame.
