Biography

Emily is a Ph.D. student in the Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Virginia Tech, in Dr. Ryan Calder’s lab. Her main areas of interest include environmental health, long range flood mitigation impacts, and policy. Currently, she is a graduate research assistant for Dr. Calder, addressing environmental questions pertaining to the transport of soil pathogens through flood waters.

Her undergraduate studies in physics introduced her to modeling capillary wave formation on the top surface of a fluid, and coupled with her experience growing up in coastal Florida, became interested in modeling the impacts of flooding on diverse sectors of society.
