The Virginia Tech Center for Public Health Practice and Research (CPHPR) fosters interdisciplinary, collaborative public health practice and research activities at Virginia Tech and among external public health agencies, organizations, practitioners and researchers. The overarching goal for CPHPR activities is to enhance public health practice and research, particularly in Southwest and Southside Virginia, Central Appalachia and across the region.

The New River Academic Health Department (NRAHD) is a collaboration between the Virginia Department of Health New River Health District and Virginia Tech's Department of Population Health Sciences. The purpose of the NRAHD is to strengthen the linkage between public health practice and its academic base in the New River Valley. The mutually-beneficial partnership is designed to enhance public health instruction, practice, research and workforce development and to improve community health in the New River Valley.

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine (CPCVM) has a long history of training veterinary students and graduate veterinarians for careers outside of traditional private clinical practice. The CPCVM is a flexible, responsive, nationally and internationally recognized Center of Excellence that plays a key role in the development of veterinarians who serve in critical leadership roles protecting animal and human health. The center is a valued partner of the public and corporate practice communities and collaborates with these partners to address new veterinary or public health challenges.
