Simultaneous Degrees

The Public Health Program welcomes graduate students from across Virginia Tech to add the MPH degree and become a simultaneous degree student. We are happy to work with the prospective student and their advisor to determine a plan of study that works for both degrees. 

Deadlines

For simultaneous degree applicants, we accept applications for the fall, spring, and summer I and II terms. All application deadlines are due by one of the following deadlines:

  • August 1  (to start taking MPH courses in the fall semester)
  • January 1 (to start taking MPH courses in the spring semester)
  • May 1 (to start taking MPH courses in the summer I session)
  • June 1 (to start taking MPH courses in the summer II session)

Required Materials

  • Submit the following materials to the program:
    • Personal statement
      • Your statement should be 800 words and address the following: 
        • 1) What interests and excites you about public health? 
        • 2) How have your life experiences related to public health? Don’t limit yourself to your resume. 
        • 3) Why did you choose the specific Virginia Tech MPH concentration(s)? 
        • 4) Why do you believe resiliency is an important attribute to have while participating in an educational program and for life after graduation? Provide examples of how you have exhibited resilience and what you learned.
    • 1 academic or professional letter of recommendation, to be completed in the online application, or mailed or emailed to the department.
    • Resume or CV
    • Transcripts, unofficial
    • Application for Simultaneous Graduate Degree form, found on the Graduate School website here under "Admissions."
      • This form must be completed and signed by your home department, then submitted to us with the application materials listed above. If you are accepted to the MPH program, we will sign the form, and it will be submitted to the Graduate School.
