Public health efforts to combat infectious disease include collecting data about the symptoms people report and the diagnoses they receive, watching for unusual cases, and investigating outbreaks. When an outbreak occurs, public health infectious disease professionals take action to inform and educate the public, and develop policies and systems to contain the infection.

General ItemPublic Health Education Concentration
Students who graduate from the public health education concentration help promote healthy lifestyles at the individual, community, societal and policy levels. Their job duties may include creating and implementing wellness programs, creating marketing and health communications campaigns, developing and submitting grant applications, providing outreach, advocating for health services and programs, and working with diverse teams to address a variety of health issues such as substance use, chronic diseases, infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, mental health and more. Students are trained to engage community partners to work with them to address unique public health challenges, with an equity lens.
