for undergraduate Public Health students
Public Health academic advisors challenge students to actively explore opportunities, empower them to develop autonomy in making informed academic decisions, and equip them with tools and knowledge to design college experiences that fit their educational, professional, and personal goals
It is your advisor’s goal that your advising experiences are as accessible and inclusive as possible. We invite you to share any information about yourself that you believe your advisor should know in order to support you better. Such information might include your lived name and pronouns, a significant life experience, or any accommodations you have or may need.
How We Support You
Advisors assist students in a number of ways and can assist students with their academic decision-making processes. Students can view their academic advisor assignment on Hokie Spa under View General Student Information and can access Navigate to schedule an appointment. t is important to stay in contact with your advisor. In order to get the most out of this partnership, be sure to share both your successes and challenges with your assigned advisor.
Academic advisors assist students in the following ways:
- Exploring your interests
- Reviewing major and minor check sheets
- Completing a plan of study
- Choosing and registering for courses
- Adding/changing a major or minor
- Academic support resources
- Planning for a study abroad trip
- Locating resources for additional help
- Resigning from the semester
- Taking classes at another institution
- Completing undergraduate research
- Understanding and interpreting degree audit reports
- Questions about dropping or withdrawing from a class
