Accelerated MPH Degree Program
The Public Health Program offers an Accelerated Bachelor of Science to Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree Program for exceptional Virginia Tech students who wish to start taking graduate-level (MPH) coursework during their undergraduate senior year and then finish the MPH degree with just one additional year of study, saving time and money. The program is available to all undergraduates studying at Virginia Tech.
Accelerated MPH students choose one of our concentrations:
Students apply to the MPH program during the spring of their junior year and are admitted in time to enroll in MPH courses the Fall of their senior year.

Eligibility
- Virginia Tech undergraduate students from any major may apply.
- Applicants must hold an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.3 at the time of application and have Junior standing.
- Complete PHS 2004 Introduction to Public Health (3 credits) by the spring of their junior year.
Application Process
- Applicants submit the complete MPH application through the Virginia Tech Graduate School admissions website.
- Students will apply to the accelerated MPH program by April 15 of their junior year and be admitted to the MPH in time to enroll in MPH courses beginning in the fall semester of their senior year.
- When completing the application, apply for entrance the same year that the bachelor's degree is awarded. For example, if you graduate in spring 2027, you will select the application round: degree-seeking Summer 2027.
- Selected applicants will complete a personal interview with faculty before the final admissions decision.
Application Materials
Personal Statement
Your statement should be 800 words and address the following:
- What interests and excites you about public health?
- How have your life experiences related to public health? Don’t limit yourself to your resume.
- Why did you choose the specific Virginia Tech MPH concentration(s)?
- Why do you believe resiliency is an important attribute to have while participating in an educational program and for life after graduation? Provide examples of how you have exhibited resilience and what you learned.
Resume or CV
Submit your Resume or CV in PDF format. Include all employment, experiences, internships, both volunteer and paid. Be sure to highlight your health-related experience.
Transcripts
Include unofficial transcripts from all institutions where you completed undergraduate and graduate courses. Official transcripts will be requied upon acceptance to the program.
Letters of Recommendation
Three academic or professional letters of recommendation from a variety of sources including academic, professional/volunteer experience.
