Master or PhD + MPH Degree
The Public Health Program welcomes graduate students from across Virginia Tech to add the MPH degree and become a simultaneous degree student. We will work with the prospective students and their advisor to determine a plan of study that works for both degrees. Students can choose one or both of our concentrations:

For simultaneous degree applicants, applications are accepted year-round. All application deadlines are due by one of the following deadlines:
- August 1 to begin in the fall semester
- January 1 to begin in the spring semester
- May 1 to begin in the summer sessions
Application Materials
Personal Statement
Your statement should be 800 words and address the following:
- What interests and excites you about public health?
- How have your life experiences related to public health? Don’t limit yourself to your resume.
- Why did you choose the specific Virginia Tech MPH concentration(s)?
- Why do you believe resiliency is an important attribute to have while participating in an educational program and for life after graduation? Provide examples of how you have exhibited resilience and what you learned.
Resume or CV
Submit your Resume or CV in PDF format. Include all employment, experiences, internships, both volunteer and paid. Be sure to highlight your health-related experience.
Transcripts
Include unofficial transcripts from all institutions where you completed undergraduate and graduate courses.
Letters of Recommendation
One letter of recommendation from your advisor supporting your interest in public health.
Degree Form
Complete the Application for Simultaneous Graduate Degree form. Download the form from the Graduate School Forms page. This form must be completed and signed by your home department, then submitted with the application materials listed above. When applicants are accepted to the MPH program, the PHS department will sign and submit to the Graduate School.
