Meghan Albritton

Second-year Master of Public Health, infectious disease concentration and second-year geography M.S. student.

Hometown/State: Rockmart, Georgia

My undergraduate degree was in?

Environmental science and Spanish at Berry College

The best part of being a VMCVM student is …

Getting exposed to so many different aspects of public health. It has shown me how broad the field is and how important a One Health approach is and will be moving forward.

The moment I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian/public health professional was …

There was not one distinct moment; it was more of a gradual realization and some people pushing me to do it. I've been fortunate to have numerous opportunities to travel and work abroad in intense poverty situations. Meeting and interacting with many people throughout Latin America in schools, orphanages, rural villages, etc., sparked my interest in global health.

The biggest misconception about being a veterinarian/public health student...

That we're only interested in public health because of COVID.

If I had a superpower, it would be...

I would love to be able to speak every language.

The course project/study you're most excited about...

I've enjoyed incorporating everything I'm learning in the MPH into my geography thesis. I'm looking at the syndemic health effects of a mine in an indigenous community in Guatemala, and being able to combine the two disciplines offers a unique perspective.

What excites me the most about the future of my industry...

That people genuinely want to make a difference. There's a lot of hard work to be done, but that can start with kindness and a desire to help people.

Favorite way to end the day...

Hot tea and a book .

Top of my bucket list...

Travel! Always excited about the next adventure. I love visiting new places and trying new things.

How many pets do you have? Types?

One giant orange cat named Carrot.
