PhD, Environmental Health, University of  Washington School of Public Health

Dr. Gohlke completed postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. She served as an AAAS fellow at the Department of State in Washington, DC and before coming to Virginia Tech she was an Assistant Professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health.

Dr. Gohlke's research focuses on development of methods to assess the role of the environment in human health. She is currently pursuing two lines of research within this broad framework: 1. A community-engaged project to determine differences in vulnerability to extreme heat events in urban versus rural settings in Alabama, and 2. An analysis of the long-term effects of early life exposures in Daphnia pulex, an alternative model system that may complement rodent and human studies in the evaluation of developmental toxicity.
